City Council meets with Mayor Milne and Aldermen in attendance. Communications seek transport for a sister to England and a Main Street crossing. various committee reports, wage accounts, and timekeeping reforms reviewed.
Mr J W McDonald sold the Star Electric Theatre to W B Finley and E D Bentley who took over Tuesday. They plan to move to Calgary and open a moving picture theatre. In Medicine Hat they ran a prosperous business with orderly conduct, ensuring safety for women and children, and the McDonalds leave with community good wishes.
The College Glee Club will perform at St John Church Saturday night under the Ladies Aid. Returning from the Seattle Exposition, the concert features 75 cents adults and children half price with gallery seats at 50 cents.
Mayor Milne has summoned a public gathering Tuesday evening in the Council Chamber to discuss the Athletic Association proposal to extend financial assistance to the baseball club.
The Altar Society of St Patrick's Church will host an ice cream social at City Park on the evening of the fifteenth.
Fred Hess and associates of the Revelstoke Sawmill Co and local yards managers spent three days in the district securing fifteen horses from Burton & Starks, H Gobbett, and J Quail at prices from 40 to 600. Five beef cattle were also shipped west from F Follis. Hess praised local crops, noting excellent conditions. Also, Rev W T Stackhouse and Mr Harkness will speak at the Baptist Church on July 13 at 8 o'clock on missionary work.
Ex mayor William Cousins departed for the Winnipeg Exposition carrying prominent crop samples from the Medicine Hat district. John Hawke contributed brome grass five feet ten inches tall timothy five feet rye four feet three inches peas four feet and bearkey five feet in height.
The Twenty-First Alberta Hussars hosted Dominion Day events at Police Point with a lively program of sports prizes donated by Lieut. Fred Pingle. Awards covered yard dashes, horse races, hops and jumps, and swimming. notable winners included Pte Weiss, Sgt Cavan, Pte Rodd, and Ivan Mahary. The Medicine Hat Rifle Association and local clubs competed in team shoots. The Kodak crowd captured many scenes as swings, tug of war, and creek swimming entertained attendees. Ed Forbes highlighted running events with a 36 ft 2 in hop and skip, plus top marks in shot put, broad jump, and 100 yd races for both single and married divisions.
The Medici Hat courts hosted a full day of play starting at nine in the morning and continuing until dark with refreshments. Results show mixed doubles and singles bouts featuring E J Roche, J W McCulla, H S Craig, Mrs Soames, G Stark, Miss Marshall, S McLaughlin, Miss Krause, and others advancing or defaulting in a lively club event.
Royal Templars of Temperance at Johnston's Grove on Dominion Day enjoyed a hot afternoon with a baseball game won by Miss Erhel Cooper's team. E Forbes led scoring while Miss Schram captained the opposing fielders. The event closed with iced drinks and an elaborate picnic spread.
The School Board sold the new hill school site for a total price of $51,100 to J Alison Reid & Co Ltd. The sale amount exceeded the $50,000 valuation.
J M scored 16 of 25 in the afternoon event at the Medicine Hat Gun Club. Rae Craft and W J Craft each totaled 24 of 25, sharing strong marks in the day’s shooting session.
A July 1 ice cream social at City Park hosted by Knox Presbyterian Church drew delighted attendees. Tables shaded by trees offered rest, refreshment, and chat with a band providing soft music and a flower girl feature enhancing the friendly gathering.
A morning ceremony at the bride’s father Mr John Huston home united Violet Huston and William Dakin B A of Irvine Alberta formerly of Truro NS. Rev A J Darroch performed the ceremony and the couple left for a Winnipeg honeymoon after a dainty wedding breakfast.
A quiet wedding was solemnized last week uniting Miss Soplia Mahler of Sulz Germany and Mr Charles Keinzie of this city in the holy bonds of matrimony. The bride was attended by Miss Katherine Semter and the groom by a local escort.
Gust Donner entered the church to Lohengrin wedding music played by Mies Emma Fisher. The bride wore a gown of lace and a tulle veil with lilies of the valley. After the ceremony guests enjoyed a sumptuous wedding repast and an enjoyable evening. Reverends H Bryant and Waldemar Wilhelm officiated.
Ground was broken this week for a new residence for Mr. W. B. Marstrall on the Esplanade. Contractor Sackrider will erect a two story brick villa with a front verandah and vestibule. The ground floor is oak finished with a parlor dining room sitting room hall and kitchen and large pantry. Upstairs there are five bedrooms with hot and cold water and a bathroom. Balconies extend over bay windows and vestibule.
The Grassy Lake Board of Trade sends thanks to C A Magrath M P of Medicine Hat for securing better mail service. In a July 2 letter from Grassy Lake Alta the board records appreciation and a vote of thanks to be entered in minutes. R W Baillie secretary notes the June 26 board meeting referred the earlier correspondence.
In a colorful reminiscence Hinmissy recalls Jim Beatty wrestling a large yellow bear from the bridge to Jim Fleming's yard. The tale describes the bear tearing fence pickets as Beatty belabors it with a hose, sparking laughter and local awe.
D D G M Sister A Morden installed Rath Rebekah Lodge No 5 officers on Tuesday July 6 with Noble Grand Sister Lilly Nichol and Vice Grand Sister Monkmen. Appointed posts filled include Conductor Sister J Buzza Warden Sister G Gordon and more. Ice cream and cake refreshments followed the ceremony.

Listings include Past Councillor J J McKim, Select Councillor E S Frost, Vice Councillor B Bellamy, Chaplain W S Curry, Rec Sec B W Bellamy, Treasurer Ed Forbes, Benevolent Sec W McF Evans, Herald Harston, Guard J Curry, Sentinel R LeBlanc, Organist Schram, Auditors J Henderson and E Muir.
