In Cranbrook a man known as Pope faced magistrate on charges of stealing three registered letters from a mail car on June 28. Postal Inspector Humphries and Constable Campbell found missing letters and clothing in Pope room and Royal Hotel, revealing cash and items linked to the theft.
Passengers on an early Calgary bound train were awakened in their sleeper cars when couplers failed to engage. They were moved to another car and forced to dress quickly as crews attempted to couple the coaches. Conductor then signaled the delay and the mail car left after further issues.
Edmonton July 7 A fatal gun accident at a Wetaskiwin farm owned by Phil Whitaker killed a twelve year old boy. The youth, son of J C McKay, was helping herd sheep with a rifle when a premature discharge struck him in the left side.

The jury sustains the will of Sir John Murray Scott leaving nearly 5 million dollars to Lady Sackville, daughter of the former British minister to Washington. The contest brought by Sir John’s relatives found no undue influence or fraud by Lady Sackville.
London July 7 A high profile defamation case moves to the higher courts over Sir Sydney Oliver’s relinquishment as Jamaica governor. He faces suit by a wealthy Jamaican society lady alleging uttered statements damage her character and reputation.
London reports a Daily Mail correspondent states the militant suffragette conspiracy no longer exists as an effective group. The statement notes leaders imprisoned and the movement presumed crushed by coercive Acts, with claims of explosives and wharf storage activities tied to the group.
Ottawa July 6 A fire began Saturday night in a Nickel picture show building and swept the Nickel theatre and the Grand Opera house next door. Night Watchman Jacquith was found unconscious by firemen. The origin is unknown and damage totals about 116000, insured. Masonite lodge rooms in the Nickel building lost nine thousand dollars in furniture. Carling Brewery and Malt ing plant on the ground floor were destroyed.
Eight year old Rous Walker of 309 Esplanade was burned by an explosion from an abandoned gas well on Third Avenue near Alberta Livery. A jogger dropped a match near the well and fresh burned paper was found. city gas workers sealed the well to prevent repeats.
Railway report notes a passenger train on the Southern Railway derailed inside a tunnel about a mile long near St Louis. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm with details received by the general superintendent and Albany dispatches providing later updates.
In Baltimore on July 6 three people died and five children were orphaned after two men carried out murderous acts in a southeast neighborhood. John W Kurtz, 23, attacked Martha Kennedy at her home then killed himself. Frank Schultz, 49, killed his wife Helen Schultz, 63, and then cut his own throat. The injured woman may recover.
