Ottawa reports with no official statement that the contract to build ships for the Canadian Navy has been secured by the British Canadian Shipbuilding and Dock Company at Sydney Ontario. The new dock will be the largest in the world at 1040 feet long and 110 feet wide.

San Francisco July 7 report confirms China considers establishing a merchant marine by subsidizing four Dollar Steamship Company vessels to fly the Chinese flag and be crewed entirely by Chinese. The ships named are the Robert Dollar, now under construction at Glasgow, the M. S. Dollar, the Hazel C. Dollar, and the Bessie Dollar, already in service.

Smallpox has broken out in eastern Manitoba with nineteen cases reported at Fort Alexander on the Winnipeg River and additional cases near Mapleton in the Selkirk district. Dr Grain M. L. has barred all passenger traffic to Las Dubonnet and Point du Bois where the outbreak began.
In Toronto on July 7 the Presbyterian General Assembly's committee on estimates and systematic giving outlined a plan to provide one million dollars for missionary and educational work and a minimum stipend of one thousand dollars for every minister. Each synod would assume its share and distribute funds within its bounds to Presbyterian ministers.

Mayor Milne returns from Calgary conference where Alberta municipalities agreed on a general municipal bill to be drafted and discussed later. The group backed a small elective council system with commissioners and two thirds council approval. Single tax favored. income tax abolition urged. Delegates included Mayors Armstrong Edmon ton Fowler Wetaskiwin Davies Strathcona Milne Medicine Hat Adame Lethbridge Mitchell Calgary and city solicitors Moffatt Jamieson Mahaffy Loggie.
Port Arthur July 7 The city council announced an agreement with Canadian Storage Corporation Limited to build the largest inland storage warehouse docks on inland waters. Docks will run 800 feet, warehouses seven stories, costing 400000 each, starting at once on fifteen acres waterfront. Ratepayers approved nine by laws totaling 400000 for municipal improvements.

Louis Ryersback managing director and Hugh F Marriott consulting engineer of Central Mining Investment Corporation of London will visit Canada in August with G. G. Lindsay of Toronto, former president of the Crow's Nest Pass Coal company. They will tour mining localities and then proceed to Vancouver as the corporation consolidates Welner Bat Company and Eickstein and Company, major operators in Kimberly and South Africa.
A man identified as Benjamin Leod died this afternoon in a cave-in at a Good Year Tires facility on a street in Saskatoon. Authorities described the incident as a fatal cave-in with emergency crews responding to the scene.
