Missile sites near Hanoi reported near complete

Washington said two North Vietnam missile sites are virtually complete and two more are at an advanced stage. There is no confirmed evidence missiles are installed yet, but timing is implied. Installations are in the Hanoi and Haiphong area with possible Soviet equipment deliveries contemplated.

Diefenbaker Demands Favreau Exit Cabinet Row

Opposition Leader John Diefenbaker urged that former justice minister Guy Favreau be removed from the cabinet as he labeled his Nov 23 Commons claim about Rivard as deception and contempt. He also said Liberal MP Guy Rouleau acted properly in resigning his seat amid the dispute. The Quebec Superior Court issued a statement revising a report paragraph about Rouleau, amid sharp crossfire from Diefenbaker and NDP leader Douglas as the Pearson judge faced questions.

Pearson says Rouleau should resign from Parliament

Prime Minister Pearson announced that Liberal MP Guy Rouleau will resign as member of Parliament for Dollard and not seek re election. The Dorion report found Rouleau had committed a reprehensible act in Rivard affair and Rouleau agreed to resign after a 20 minute discussion with Pearson.

Dupuis to be tried in fall for race track charter influence

Yvon Dupuis former minister in Prime Minister Pearson's cabinet was sent to trial at the fall assizes on charges of accepting 10000 dollars for his influence in an unsuccessful bid to obtain a race track charter. He resigned in January at Pearson's request.

Judge orders new trial for Regina doctor in conspiracy case

Chief Justice E M Culliton quashed Dr M C Shumiatcher's three year sentence, calling the trial flawed for not naming the exact conspiracy agreement. Permits granted to all breeders for Charolais imports

Ottawa reports every Canadian breeder who applied for a permit to import French Charolais cattle received one. The agriculture department noted 74 applications were submitted and limited the first shipment to about 120 cattle due to quarantine capacity. Each applicant could submit up to three animals. The department denied publishing permit holder lists and defended privacy and nonpolitical selection.

Massive Viet Cong Operation Seeks Joint Action

In Saigon area a combined operation from American South Vietnamese and Australian forces involved more than 2,500 troops. Contact with the Viet Cong was limited while fighting elsewhere caused casualties including one American killed, three wounded and two missing. Pleiku province saw 26 South Vietnamese and four Vietnamese killed with 2,5? missing. Artillery and air bombardment preceded the jungle strike in D zone near Saigon.

Fireblight Ravages Local Apple Orchards

Fireblight has infected about 90 percent of town apple trees per district agriculturist Jack Anderson. Many trees were removed due to severe infection. Brooks Horticultural Station manager P D Hargrave notes sprays like Free Copper or a weak Bordeaux mix may help, but infected parts must be pruned and burned to stop spread. Resignation urged for Liberal MP Rouleau

Conservative MP Erik Nielsen said Rouleau should resign after the Dorian inquiry found him involved in a reprehensible act. Nielsen, speaking at a Winnipeg press conference, noted the prime minister Pearson requested the resignation as the only course for the Montreal Dollard member and former parliamentary secretary.
