Cox Nominated by Democratic Convention for Presidency

Auditorium in San Francisco reports that James M. Cox of Ohio secured the Democratic nomination for president after a 44 ballot fight. The moving of nomination by Sam Amidon followed Cox reaching 702 votes as delegates urged acclamation amid cheering and brass bands. Leaders eye Franklin D. Roosevelt for second place as delegates adjourn to noon.

White May Yet Be Induced To Form A Government

Ottawa rumors say Sir Thomas White may be invited to form a government after Sir Robert Borden. It is believed White could gain substantial Quebec support. Hon. N W Rowell remains absent and may not return with a definite decision on his portfolio.

10000 Tons Western Coal Offered to Hamilton Chamber

Hamilton July 6 The offer of 10000 tons of western coal has been made to the Hamilton chamber of commerce through a Winnipeg firm which claims to be the largest distributor of coal in Western Canada. The coal is said to be run of mine size for power purposes. The order is open for eight weeks and the chamber seeks freight rate details.

86 Percent Irish Favor Separation From Britain

A Toronto audience at the Labor Temple denounced Britain over Ireland and heard Dr. Thomas O Haenn of Kingston claim 86 percent of Ireland favors separation from Great Britain. He praised the Sinn Féiners and labeled Premier Lloyd George a "little political trickster."

Hatter Invited To Hilda Picnic July 14

Hilda residents met Saturday to plan a picnic set for Wednesday July 14 in the Sand Hills near Mr Beatty’s ranch. The school board may grant a holiday for children. A committee led by Mr Godard handles the program and refreshments with Miss Scott, Miss Carswell, and others. Tilda district band to supply music. Medicine Hat visitors invited to attend and view local crops improved by rain.

Calgary men face liquor charges in police court

In police court this morning judgment was reserved until tomorrow in cases against Samuel Diamond and Conrad Haas of Calgary for having liquor in other than a private dwelling and for bringing liquor into the province. Tr. S. Ireland and T. Calder were fined $1 plus costs for lawn service in prohibited hours, and J. Reed was fined $2 plus costs for driving on the wrong side of the street.

Dock Workers Strike in Dublin Over James Larkin

Three thousand Frish dock workers in Dublin walked to city hall and signed a memorial demanding the release of James Larkin, head of the transport workers union, now serving a sentence in a New York state prison.

Fatal and critical injuries from Lomonton High Level Bridge crash

Six aboard a car returning from the exhibition grounds collided with a steel girder on Edmonton’s high level bridge. Fred Timms of Calgary died en route. H L Robinson of Calgary and John Lucas of Calgary sustained serious injuries. Driver H L Smith unconscious with concussion. Others injured include Janes Smith and Gilbert May with various wounds, and Thomas Melen who works with Capt. Charris' show horses.

Winnipeg July 1 A morning Aero Clubs of Canada session debated future policy. Some speakers urged a Dominion organization free from government control. Debate focused on whether to limit membership to returned airmen and on civilian office holding. no firm policy set before adjournment.

Stove Explosion Claims Life in Brandon Fire

Mrs Annie Wata mick and her young child died after a kitchen stove exploded as coal was poured on the fire to hasten baking. The accident occurred in Brandon with emergency crews responding to the blaze on Saturday night.
