Medicine Hat council backs utility fee compromise to raise 3 million yearly
The council voted 8 to 1 to implement the municipal consent and access fee at about half the proposed rate, shifting funds from a property tax plan. Chamber officials note the fee weighs more on businesses since it is a consumption-based charge, while residents pay comparatively less. Administrators say local MCAF would be about a quarter of rates in other cities, with no public cost analysis released.
