Alberta Saskatchewan join as provinces and Wheat Board creation

More time sought in murder case

Medicine Hat News reports George Florkowski charged with first degree murder in the January 26 death of Henry Dyck, 58, at a Medicine Hat residence. Defence asks to move the case to July 11 for more prep time as the preliminary hearing remains unsettled after gunfire and a fatal stab wound were found in the house.

Attempted murder suspect appears in court

James Laurence McKay, 68, appeared in court on two counts of attempted murder related to a June 27 knife attack at a residence on 3rd St NW. The victims were a 63-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man. McKay requested a July 11 adjournment as prosecutors and defense review information. he sustained facial injuries during the alleged incident. Police are investigating and say McKay and the victims did not know each other.

Police investigate recent car theft in Brooks

Brooks RCMP investigate three vehicle break-ins in the Boston Pizza parking lot on July 2 between 11 p.m. and midnight. Items were stolen from the cars and police say targets had no alarm systems and valuables visible. Residents are urged to hide valuables and report tips to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS (8477).

In Elkwater Provincial Park, RCMP and conservation officers arrested two British Columbia men for break and enter and theft after a reported in progress incident. Investigation ongoing.

RCMP say tests on Grande Prairie QE11 hospital staff suggest possible criminal activity. Over nine months employees on the fourth floor reported flu like symptoms and memory loss.
