Bear Attacks 11-Year-Old in Jasper Town Park
A black bear attacked an 11-year-old boy in Jasper on Saturday injuring his head and face. Park wardens and an ambulance responded to the gated west end where the incident occurred as the boy and a friend walked. Conditions of the boy were not released. Locals say the area is a popular dog walking spot near a creek and grain spills on nearby railroad tracks have drawn bears.

RCMP Nostalgia Ride Ends In Fort MacLeod Route Return
Fifty-five riders completed a 56 day re creation of the first March West as 150 mounted RCMP reenactors in 1874 uniforms rode into Fort MacLeod. They paused at Bar racks Square to raise the Maple Leaf flag and were welcomed by Peigan Nation officials. Participants spoke of hardships and learning, noting bridges we have now versus ford able streams then, with community support seen in towns along the route.

FBI said 21 year old Benjamin Nathaniel Smith fatally shot himself during a police chase after a spree that began in Chicago and included shootings targeting minorities. He dumped a blue car at a southern Illinois truck stop Salem carjacked a van and died after a crash. Fingerprints and gun evidence tied to the shootings are being reviewed.

Police rescue five ducklings after mother hit by car
Constable Stephanie McKinnon responded to a street crossing incident early Saturday. A passing motorist alerted police to five ducklings a week or two old attempting to cross the road. The mother was killed. Ducklings were placed in a box, taken to a local veterinary clinic, then handed to Rockyview Wildlife Recovery in Madden.
