Sheriff Ray Frost said she woke and was not scratched as 250 rescuers braved rain in a bear wary search. Her father Mortimer Curtis cried with relief as she returned to him. The mother feared a bear carried her daughter away for a time, but doctors reported she was in perfect condition.

Alberta cabinet endorses the sale of 2 349 acres to the City of Medicine Hat for industrial use. The move clears the way for a 25 to 30 million dollar chemical fertilizer plant north of Crescent Heights. North West Nitro Chemicals Ltd plans the facility on section 11 with section 12 for secondary use. A pipeline permit from New British Dominion Oil and Gas Co. may follow to supply gas to the plant and city. Work is set to begin this summer and finish by year end 1956.
Public Works Minister Robt. H. Winters visits Medicine Hat for a western beef barbecue at Golden Valley Farm and irrigation demonstrations. Chamber of Commerce arranges, with Mayor Harry Weiner hosting, to inspect Scholten feedlots and discuss a new post office building and armouries. He rides in on CPR and will go to Lethbridge after Wednesday night.
A seven year old girl with long brown hair visits a Houston police station to post bond for her 30 year old brother on a drunk charge. She gathers pennies and nickels from her piggy bank, totaling 4.90, but a bystander covers the remaining amount allowing the release. The girl smiles as her brother leaves with her.
Toronto endures a blistering heat wave with downtown highs around 95 as hundreds sleep on fire escapes verandas and in parks. Offices close early and workers at Avro in Malton walk off saying shops are unbearable while other cities report lower temperatures across Canada.
Regina CP dispatch says Canadian Pipelines and Petroleum Ltd reports an important uranium discovery on Stewart Island in Lake Athabasca. Moose Jaw broker Jack Meikle cites expected official confirmation in New York today by E. G. Meshi, president of the parent company. Stewart Island lies about 350 miles north of Edmonton and is believed to be sizable within a group.
