Shelby Ringside July 4. Jack Dempsey defeats Jim Gibbons to keep the heavyweight championship after a gruelling contest under a hot sun. Gibbons holds firm until round fourteen but Dempsey’s weight advantages prevail in the fifteenth.
In Shelby July 4 coverage notes the Dempsey vs Gibbons heavyweight championship drew far fewer than expected spectators at a 40 000 seat arena. Gate receipts appear insufficient to cover Dempsey s 300 000 guarantee while Gibbons is paid on percentage. Tickets sold for 10 dollars with many resold or paid through the fence as deputies patrolled the crowd.

Fort Qu Appelle Sask July 4 Hooded bodies of a man and woman near the lake shore by the sanatorium identified as Mr and Mrs Constantine Serope. Serope a farmer and sanatorium inmate for about three months and his wife and son visited July 2. The bodies were found after the son returned home. police hold the theory that Serope killed his wife and then himself. Both victims aged 32.
Officials from the department of railways and canals stated there were no provisions for constructing branch lines on the Canadian National Railway and that the bill’s defeat stops any new railway construction in British Columbia and other provinces.

Climax Saskatchewan July 3 Tony Richtik survived a lightning strike that killed two horses in a field. The bolt traveled through a chain halter into Richtik, knocking him unconscious and tearing his clothing. He is slowly recovering with medical help and is not yet able to work.
July 4 reports an attempt to blow up the Col Gount Monument in St. Pilcire honoring St Hilaire war dead. A man was seen loitering before the blast and is believed to be the gang's tool, following a monument alteration a year ago. No arrests have been made.
The Edmonton district received exceptionally heavy rains beginning Tuesday afternoon with high winds. The downpour continued until five o'clock this morning, disrupting travel and daily activities.
