More than 1,000 Hatters woke up to a power outage as a contractor tore a power line on 30 Street S.W. toward Cottonwood Coulee Golf Course at 7 25 a m. City Electric Utilities reported power restored for most within 30 minutes and 160 households remained without power for 86 minutes.

Saskatchewan announces its annual Free Fishing Weekend on July 7 and 8 allowing everyone to fish without a license inside the province. Over 250000 anglers fish yearly, with 35000 from outside Saskatchewan, while regulations and possession limits still apply and nonresidents must purchase a license for national parks or if fishing from outside the province.
Regina and other regions saw over two dozen health professionals walk out in a limited job action across Saskatchewan including respiratory therapists and hospital pharmacists. The Health Sciences Association of Saskatchewan paused 27 of 2700 members to signal good faith while urging a stronger collective agreement.
Former Olympic champion Myriam Bedard says she is concerned about reports her boyfriend Nima Mazhari is on a hunger strike in prison. Mazhari, who received a six month sentence for art theft, allegedly stopped eating to protest the verdict. Transport Canada is investigating a possible security breach at the St Anthony airport in Newfoundland and Labrador. Nav Canada employees reported an unidentified vehicle entering the main apron on June 26 and a person boarded a Provincial Airlines flight to St John’s with baggage that may not have been screened. No harm occurred.
Alan Johnston a BBC reporter was released in Gaza City after nearly four months in captivity. He described the ordeal as appalling and said captors threatened his life while he was repeatedly confined and at times chained. He said he was sick from the food but called freedom fantastic.
