Bow Island Crops Pulverized by Hail

A severe hailstorm struck four miles south of Bow Island causing near total crop loss in barley oats wheat and beets. Hailstones measured one to one and a half inches with strong winds and heavy rain. Reports list farmers Lud Purdek John Lyszewski Orville Kaufman Dean McKnight Cecil Lynn Ralph and Orman Mitchell among the heavy losers. A nearby site at St Mary and Milk River Development recorded 1.01 inches of rain.

Ward trial set for July 15 at Old Bailey

TransAir cuts service here due to low traffic

TransAir announced a schedule change effective July 14 cutting Medicine Hat flights from daily to three days a week with no weekend service. A Monday Calgary origin and Friday Regina origin service will be added, creating a three day commuter pattern for Hatters and reduced Calgary trips.

A 20 minute storm dumped hailstones marble sized and three inches of rain on Fort Macleod Alberta flooding basements and flooding stores on the north side of Main Street. Some damage extended to the Taber district with half inch hail lingering for hours. The Elkwater Stampede, postponed due to rain, has been rescheduled for July 27 with entries closing at 9 30 a m. The postponement ends a nine year stretch of at least one rain day affecting rodeo plans and grounds work continued by the Elkwater Roping Club to aid drying and access.
