River flows lower than typical for season in Medicine Hat

The South Saskatchewan River at Medicine Hat runs far below its usual July level, with current flow at 55 cubic metres per second. City officials say potable water supply remains unaffected and no water-restriction is planned, noting infrastructure accommodates lower flows. Alberta Environment confirms the unusually low river levels compared with typical ranges.

Smoke from regional wildfires prompts Alberta health advisory

Alberta Health Services issued an air quality advisory for Medicine Hat as smoke from three wildfire sources in the Northwest Territories, northern Alberta and northern Saskatchewan blankets the area. Meteorologist Bill McMurtry of Environment Canada notes southward movement with possible brief relief, then renewed smoke. Visibility for flights remains adequate for IFR operations. staff say a strong west to southwest wind could clear the air, otherwise stagnation persists.

Hatters celebrate Canada Day in Kin Coulee Park

Hatters mark Canada’s 148th birthday at Kin Coulee Park amid smoke and rain. Medicine Hat and District Canada Day Society hosted the event with 100+ volunteers, two music stages, vendors, bounce castles, and the Beat the Heat skate contest drawing families despite hazy skies.
