Prince Charles Opens World University Games in Canada Day Ceremony
Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, opened the 12th World University Games in Edmonton on Canada Day amid 60,000 cheering spectators. Serge Joyal spoke for the government as pipers led a parade, volunteers waved banners, and the crowd joined in O Canada while the flame was carried in to start 11 days of competition.

Eight Die In Quebec Bus Crash While Overtaking
Police say a head on collision on Highway 138 near Papinachois killed eight as a station wagon pulled out to pass four or five cars on a two lane road. The bus caught fire trapping three identified victims and twenty six were injured, with three elderly and one man severely burned.
