Winniseg January 30 Judge L St. George Stubbs blasts a pamphlet titled The South-Ender as literary garbage and a virile scurrilous attack. He denounces two Winnipeg journalists and condemns the Manitoba Government and Hon W F Major attorney general amid the commission probing alleged misconduct.
Montreal reports formal notices from Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways to runing trades calling for a 20 percent wage reduction effective March 3. About 26,000 workers including engineers and conductors face the change after a year with a 10 percent deduction. Discussions continue as unions seek a new fixed period, with a vote possible by February 23.
G H Williams of Seamans Sask spoke to a full Eagles Hall on the need to replace capitalism with a cooperative system. He argued the present surplus goods and low purchasing power require a drastic change to remove the profit motive and restructure economics. An early morning dynamite blast at the British Columbia government relief camp administration building at Wood Bay, about 90 miles north of Vancouver, seriously injures foreman R. Kean. About 150 men are in the camp. Kean was found unconscious in the debris, bleeding and stunned but not believed to be fatally hurt as police head to Wood Bay to investigate.

Edmonton Calgary and Lethbridge posted multiple above freezing days with several days above 20 degrees while cold snaps reached as low as 23 below in November and 20 below in December.

Bert McAlary is listed as missing near Sussex New Brunswick, after attempting to drive twelve miles to reach home. A Gloucester vessel from Yarmouth is reported lost at sea with additional crew feared dead.
