The notice proclaims The News as unmatched in equipment and presses in the West and invites opportunities to bid on or figure work with the printing house.
The report details two rink games where the bachelors triumphed 9 to 7 in one match with I C Dixon and F Hastie, and 53 to 8 in the other led by W A Douglas and S J Shepherd. An oyster supper funded by the losers followed, then social tea events and church fund-raising news.
On Sunday January 19 Rev J W Morrow of Medicine Hat led a large Walsh Hall congregation of about 30. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Hargrave Mr and Mrs Flood and Miss Curley and others. Mrs Atchinson fell ill but is improving. The cold snap surprised locals who expected warmer weather.
A special meeting of the Town Council, chaired by Councillor Hutchinson, accepts H C Yuill’s offer of four lots at Main Street and Fourth Avenue for 2000. Payments spread over four years at 500 yearly, with early payoff optional. contract with L Morris for a fire hall also prepared for approval.
At a board meeting on the 13th, nurse hire rates were raised from 1.00 to 1.50 per day or 10 a week. Donations were received from W Huckvale 20, W A Burton 10, W Crawford 10, Geo Noble 10, T McKay 5, W Houghton vegetables, J Paul 3 tons coal. Moose Jaw mayor Finlay raised 178.50 from citizens for Medicine Hat General Hospital, with many local names listed among contributors and the hospital thanking supporters.
W B Marshall hardware merchant and Medicine Hat booster told Hardware and Metal in Toronto that prospects for the Northwest are bright. He cites new gas wells, nearby coal, cattle and sheep grazing, and growing settler inflows. He mentions a possible Medicine Hat capital move and notes CPR training rule updates.
Stock shipments led by Gordon and Ironsides dated Jan 6 Jan 22 and Jan 26 moved from Dunmore Junction and Medicine Hat West. The consignments included numerous cows steers and bulls with left right shoulder ribs hips and other carcass indications noted by inspector J H G Bray and various reference codes for each animal.
