Paris reports a Portuguese witness in Berlin describing riots on January 17 with mobs of men women and children. Troops bayoneted and used machine guns against the rioters causing many to be wounded or killed.
In Irvine and surrounding Alberta towns along the C P R east of Medicine Hat the Salvation Army social work sparks broad goodwill toward the organization. Calgary’s Rescue Home and Children’s Home report 1916 activity with 81 admissions and numerous placements while small towns like Langdon and Suffield show strong support, as Medicine Hat prepares for a provincial congress on January 29.
