Charles Chaplin, visibly pale yet upbeat, thanks the public and press for their support during his trial. He plans to return to California to pursue custody and reconciliation with Lita Grey once his health allows, abandoning plans to work on The Circus in New York.
Vancouver reports that the Consolidated Exporters of British Columbia donated what amounts to thousands of dollars to Vancouver newspapers over two years. Russell Whitlaw, director, testified before the Royal Commission on Customs and said the firm gave $17,000 to the Vancouver World, now absorbed by other papers since March 1924. He said the donations had no stated purpose and that other papers including the Province and the Sun received funds as well. The witness identified Campbell as the man who controlled the World’s payroll prior to a large withdrawal from a New York bank, and suggested it funded private affairs and artistic publicity rather than public needs.
Wheat inspections in Winnipeg over the weekend reached 280 cars with 69 of contract grade. The prior year on the same date 397 cars were inspected. Clark, formerly of Suidkeian, died suddenly in Toronto.

An earthquake lasting about thirty seconds was felt in Elgin and surrounding districts 118 miles north of Edinburgh shortly before five this morning. The tremor produced subterranean noises and was also felt in Kirkwall in Orkney, where houses shook and residents were awakened.

In Rockford Illinois on January 24 Mr and Mrs P F Knight and five children perished when their automobile was struck by a train at a crossing. Helen Knight, age 18, survived by being thrown onto the engine pilot uninjured.
