Ex mayor Thomas Urquhart, in charge of finances, told clergymen in Toronto that contributions from co operating churches total only 282 of an estimated 12 000 to 14 000 dollar campaign cost. He warned of a deficit of 5 600 dollars or more, with about 7 300 dollars likely available to cover expenses.
Dr Hawke and Ford Day returned to the city after two weeks at Red Deer finding cattle in good condition. They learned a homesteader’s body was found near Fergus Kennedy’s place four miles away, believed to have died in the blizzard while wandering and caught by barbed wire. A Mounted Policeman is investigating to identify the victim.
Copenhagen January 24 Sydens, a Danish aviator, flying a Voison aeroplane, discovered at height that his machine was on fire. Spectators warned him and he turned to see the framework ablaze. He descended rapidly and landed safely, though the aircraft was destroyed.
The Medicine Hat Trades and Labor Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday evening in Eagle's hall to elect officers for the year including President vice president recording and corresponding secretary financial secretary treasurer statistician and warden. Four others escaped injury.

Philadelphia January 24. A special Pennsylvania Railway train carried J. P. Morgan from Washington to New York in three hours and 56 minutes, averaging over a mile a minute for 224.7 miles, a record run far faster than the usual five hours for express trains.
