Ottawa broadcast raises 518.8 million for Canadian charities
Officials announced matching funds lifted Friday night donations to 518.8 million as about 92,000 gifts poured in including a $100,000 pledge. The star-studded telethon, hosted from CHC headquarters, featured Nelly Furtado and performances by K and The Tragically Hip. Funds benefited Canadian Red Cross and UNICEF Canada among others, with Gov Gen and Prime Minister urging continued giving and rebuilding nationwide.
