Mulroney fired Bissonnette and ordered an RCMP probe, while opposition MPs criticized the leaks and RCMP independence.

Edmonton reports unions oppose a plan to make on the job drinking by railway workers a Criminal Code offence. Transport Minister John Crosbie says penalties under theLabor Code would be harsher, with fines up to 100000 dollars or two years in jail, replacing current safety rules overseen by the Canadian Transport Commission.
The Western Grain Stabilization Fund faces a $200 million deficit with potential to grow by year end 1986 87 as grain prices stay low. Fewer payments, plunging prices and a record last year have strained the fund and raised talk of borrowing from the federal treasury. Garth Gorski cautions against panic while economists foresee several more years of low prices.
External Affairs Minister Joe Clark wrote to Alberta partner Robert Ketcheson about a possible Canadian role in a plot to rescue American prisoners in Vietnam. Barker, jailed for marijuana offenses, and Ketcheson were linked to the scheme. Clark indicated a film could be sent to the U.S. government if it existed.
