Ottawa plans a 48 percent cut in February export charge for mixed blend sweet crude from 3.82 to 2 per barrel with cabinet approval. Chicago price to about 33.35 a barrel and Toronto refiners around 39. NEB also seeks cuts in heavy crude Lloydminster by 2.22 a barrel to curb Alberta Saskatchewan over supply.

A man died this morning in a head-on crash on Brier Park Road when his late-model Buick collided with a city dump truck on a frosty hill. Police withheld the victim’s name until next of kin are notified. damage totaled about 12 000 dollars. The crash closed the road while tow trucks cleared the scene and sanding began.
Cathy Evelyn Smith may plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter in John Belushi's 1982 overdose death but only if no prison term is demanded. The 37 year old singer returned to Los Angeles from Toronto to face trial after extradition. She faced murder charges in 1983 and could face furnishing heroin and cocaine along with the manslaughter count. The plea, entered in a Los Angeles courtroom, hinges on the district attorney's willingness to accept no prison time.
Three Medicine Hat men were remanded after provincial court appearance on trafficking and conspiring to traffic cocaine. Martin Lafrance 27 Terrance Lafrance 23 and Ricky Volk 26 are linked to Aug 1984 trafficking dates and the June to Aug conspiracy window. Volk remains in custody. Lafrance duo seek bail Jan. 25.
