Moscow announces ending capitalism in villages as key first plan result and begins second plan aimed to raise living standards. It pledges workers will fare two to three times better and aims to double cotton and flax output, triple sugar beets, and reach about 2.15 million bushels of grain.
London January 22 Canadian Press Cable The Most Rev Cosme Gordon Lang Archbishop of Canterbury granted permission for the Lower House of Convocation of Canterbury to defer its decision on admitting non-conformists into communion. The Upper House had urged lower house to grant diocesan bishops discretionary power. After four hours of debate the Lower House failed to reach a verdict and cast votes to seek the Archbishop guidance.
A petition bearing 150 names of married unemployed men in Medickr Hat appeals to the Provincial Government to extend relief. Sent to Premier Brownlee, the document notes worsening conditions since city relief was curtailed and calls for government cooperation to supply further aid.
Winnipeg on Wednesday reveals wheat inspections at 163 cars with last year 424. Contracts show 120 for wheat, oats at 34 versus 15 last year, barley 0 versus 20, flax 2 versus 2, rye 1 versus 1.
A 30 mile per hour wind gusts to higher speeds battered Vancouver with downed telegraph poles shattered glass and broken light standards. A Royal Canadian Air Force crew from Jericho Beach endured engine trouble landing in English Bay before being rescued. Downtown damage included a shattered bank window and downed poles while Granville Island firms paused operations. West Vancouver ferries halted and Stanley Park trees fell as 18 fire alarms answered.
Sudbury reporting two Montreal to Victoria fliers Carl Grubbstrom and W H Cross forced down by engine trouble and marooned at Honey Lake near Mackay Ontario about 93 miles east of North Bay. They left Ottawa January 21 10 15 am on the second leg toward Victoria and are uninjured but incommunicado with rescuers today amid poor flying conditions.
Ottawa notes the government has long considered absorbing the Customs Preventive Service into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The plan centers on efficiency and economy as key aims, with no definite steps yet taken to implement the merger.

Delegates to the United Farmers of Alberta in Edmonton convene a secret session to discuss the welfare of the organization and its cooperative ventures, amid concerns over declined dues and Wheat Pool surpluses. The convention also rejects a provincial debt moratorium, voting to extend the Debt Adjustment Act and curb dispossession, with discussions led by P H Wedderburn and political figures from the region.
A series of more than three strong earthquakes shook Guatemala yesterday causing fear of extensive damage near the two volcanoes De Fuego and Acatemango. Eruptions sent fiery ash and lava streaks over Guatemala City as lava and ash filings drifted by night.

R B Pratt was unanimously chosen as president for 1932 at the Medicine Hat Branch of the Canadian Legion during a well attended Memorial Hall meeting. Officers elected include L A Sharkland as First Vice President H Weightman as Second Vice President plus an executive committee and other posts. A life membership card was presented to J Bruce by retiring president W Wright. The branch decided to forego the annual smoker to aid unemployed members.
London January 22 Official cabinet statement said no unanimous conclusion on the balance of trade report was reached. Ministers who could not support the majority tariffs and allied issues were allowed to express views in speech and vote to maintain national unity.
