Ottawa plans pension premium surge to fund aging population
The Toronto Star reports Ottawa may nearly double Canada Pension Plan premiums over four years to avert bigger future hikes as baby boomers retire. Current 5.6% would rise to about 10% by 2000, with maximum employee or employer contributions growing from 893 to 1595 dollars. The plan also backs off raising the retirement age from 65 to 67.
