In Montreal, Mrs. Lucien Rivard, wife of a suspected drug smuggler, burst into tears during questioning at the Dorian inquiry about a pregnancy and related matter as officials probe the case.
Billie Sol Estes, called the most gigantic swindler in history by a judge, is jailed after the Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal of a 15 year mail fraud sentence. Thoman revoked his $100000 appeal bond and Estes was arrested at his Abilene home, ending a three year legal battle.
Canadian Press reports English speaking Conservative MPs joined Quebec colleagues in calling for a new leader to ease tensions with Quebec over constitutional and fiscal reforms. Named supporters include Gerald W. Baldwin Gordon Fairweather Gordon Aiken and Fred Stenson.
In Prince Albert Saskatchewan residents from housewives to students praise John Diefenbaker as a strong leader. Locals note his standing in parliament and opposition leadership while some liberals question his tenure yet most remain supportive and optimistic about his future as prime minister if his cabinet returns.

Lord Moran, his physician, reported a very restless night and no immediate improvement, with an 11 a.m. bulletin noting no further deterioration and warning of an imminent final struggle.

Lady Churchill urged reporters to withdraw outside his home in London as Prime Minister Wilson postponed a West Germany visit.
