Calgary Empire hotel fireclaims two lives and massive damages
Calgary Alberta January reports a Sunday morning blaze at the Empire hotel and adjacent Grand Central section caused more than a quarter of a million dollars in damage. Two men Thomas Huckvale a provincial stock detective and Christopher McBride suffocated in the basement as firemen rescued guests from ladders and escapes. Fire officials estimated total loss over 250000 with many guests losing clothing and baggage. Several firemen injured and hospitalised including Lieut Gaylord, Cappy Smart, Lieut Mayhew, Fireman Jenson, Parish, and Lemeaix.
