Mondale visits Canada as gas, trade talks gain momentum

Man eaten by lions in German zoo incident

In Gelsenkirchen West Germany a 20 year old man Bernhard Griebner from Recklingshausen broke into a lions cage at a zoo last Monday night and was killed. Police found bone fragments and the victim’s wallet in the cage among the lions. Zoo workers recovered the remains after spotting human bones amid the lions and identity was confirmed from the wallet documents. Griebner, described as an animal lover, had nature books at home and authorities said they do not know why he entered the cage.

Roof collapses at Hartford Civic Centre Coliseum after snow

The Hartford Civic Centre Coliseum roof buckled and collapsed around 4:20 a.m. after heavy snow and freezing rain. No injuries were reported among security guards or others. The 10,000-seat arena, completed in 1972, sits in a $70 million downtown complex with a Sheraton hotel nearby, and patrons at the hotel were awakened by the crash.
