In Medicine Hat Mayor Harry Welner dismissed civilian defence as a dead end and said funding must come from senior governments. The council debated the issue after a letter from the Municipal Chapter of the IODE urged action, though volunteers and a paid organizer were discussed.
N E Tanner of Calgary and Trans-Canada Pipe Lines concludes western Canada will justify another trans-Canada pipeline within four years as proven gas reserves rise to 13.4 trillion cubic feet and output grows by 1.3 trillion. He cites three major projects and a big construction boom in the next two to three years.
A wild chase in Vancouver ended with a 22 year old suspect taken into custody after a car pursuit near the city police station. About 15 known drug users traced to a school ground spurred the incident. One other man was released after questioning. 13 suspects escaped from a four man police team.
