London Jan. 8 Twenty one of the 27 crew members of the British steamer Penarth were drowned off the Norfolk coast after the maize laden vessel struck Sheeringham shoal in a heavy gale. Saturday four Medicine Hat men joined including W P Seggie father of Doris Seggie traveling with the Allen players. Twenty four Youngstown men in Acadia district enlisted. Captain Oakes noted the number sought was small but praised the new corps as a fine body of men. Lieut Evely from Edmonton arrived. drills continue at the armory and the ball park. A list of recruits includes J Snowdon W Conway and many Youngstown names. A Bowness was elected mayor of Cranbrook by acclamation.
