Flyers Escape Fiery Death Near San Pedro
San Pedro Cel Jan 16 noon bombing and torpedo plunger 2-1-7 left San Diego bound for port badly damaged by explosions. Two officers and six men survived but one plane motor damaged and aircraft caught fire at 1500 feet. The crash occurred seven miles north of Laguna Beach, near a site three miles south of here where the ship had to land last night due to a broken dash. As land was being effected, crew members jumped from wings to fight the flames.
