Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev announced on national television a plan to rid the Earth of nuclear weapons within 15 years, as the USSR and United States prepare for Geneva talks. He also proposed a three month extension of the unilateral moratorium on nuclear testing, current since August.
ACU TM suspends Christian Tait for refusing to stand for the Lord's Prayer. An interim agreement allows his return to classes after the prayer, with the student barred until the prayer ends. The arrangement lasts while the Manitoba Human Rights Commission decides the case.
The Redcliff Medicine Hat Steering Committee on Annexation says provincial aid is essential for absorbing Redcliff. Without a grant from the province, the committee cannot recommend annexation to Medicine Hat residents due to the high capital construction costs.
