Senator W J A Buchanan, honorary Rotary member, spoke at the Medicine Hat Rotary meeting yesterday. His address praised Alberta's development prospects and highlighted faith in the province’s future.

Edmonton January 11 Registrations of motor vehicles in Alberta last year totaled 64 775 with 646 of this number being livery cars. For 1925 registrations were 53 002 and for 1924 41 993. Ten years ago in 1916 the government sold 9 707 licenses for cars. In 1906 the first year of auto registration 41 plates were issued and in 1912 the boom year 2 050 Albertans owned cars. Government officials have not released total revenue from motor vehicle licenses for 1926 but it is estimated to exceed 1 132 000, based on a standard rate near the annual average.
In Winnipeg the wheat market shows small trade with light outside buying and a weak trend. May, July and Oct futures finish lower while cash markets stay largely inactive and export trade in rye remains steady.

In Austen Texas on January 10, Dr. Frank Norris a Baptist pastor and evangelist from Fort Worth faces district court for the July 17 slaying of Dexter B. Chipps a wealthy lumberman. The state seeks the death penalty with over two hundred witnesses subpoenaed and 300 prospective jurors summoned. Norris and his lawyers plan to offer self defense while the state contends Chipps confronted Norris at the church amid protests against attacks on Mayor H. H. Meacham owner of a local store.
Four children and the house owner’s daughter are dead after a blaze swept the frame residence of Charles Hill on Gladstone Ave west end. Miss Mildred Morrison 21 from Shaynville Que and Lois Hill eight died inside. Clifford Hill seven Roy Hill four also perished. Mrs Hill hospitalized in critical condition after leaping from an upstairs window. Authorities say patient condition unchanged.
Fire in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario destroyed the Farwell blocks early today. Loss estimated at 100000 dollars. a store operated by J. Rosenstein and several offices were housed there. Defective wiring suspected as the cause. firefighters battled the blaze in sub zero temperatures.
