The marriage of Florence Cook to Robert D. Porter was celebrated at the Cook residence on Christmas day with a large guest list, a wedding banquet, and dancing in a formal drawing room. The couple will honeymoon in Wingham and other areas, returning next week. The groom is a rancher from Medicine Hat. the bride's father sold the homestead to John Leader to join Porter in ranching.
Farmers facing exploitation by railways and markets move to unite for protection. A meeting at Indian Head on January 2 decided to form the Grain Growers' Association of the Territories with a president, vice presidents for Assiniboia Alberta and Saskatchewan, a secretary-treasurer, and a five member board. Local branches will form nationwide, with a March 12 annual meeting to complete the setup and begin addressing grievances. Membership fee is 41. The territorial government supports the effort with the Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture present.
The first Town Council meeting of the year saw full attendance by Mayor Finlay and councilors Pendale Hutchinson Forster McKay Cook and Milne. Minutes were read, committees named, and multiple requests and contracts discussed, including waterworks plans, gas well work with Mr Grant, and a proposed temporary fire hall. The session also approved payments, leave of absence for Policeman Markwick, and entered contracts for drilling the second gas well. A special session followed with further approvals and adjournment.
