London January 7 Food Minister Lord Woolton announced the pegging of prices for a range of foods at or below December 2 levels. The list includes coffee cocoa chocolate canned and boiled vegetables canned pork and beans honey fish and poultry pastes poultry tapioca biscuits canned soups processed cheese custard powders jellies and nuts.
Royal Air Force reports advance into Libya with troops reaching El Adem the Tobruk airport. Italians abandoned the airfield after prior bombings. Tobruk 70 miles west of Bardia remains under threat as Wavell's forces press to keep Italy on the defensive. Derna Martuba and Tobruk area bombed again.

London reports Church House Westminster the new administrative HQ of the Church of England was seriously damaged in a recent Nazi air raid. Six people were killed in the attack.
