Fee hike shocks local groups using school gyms and fields

Current 50 dollar annual fees would shift to up to 12.50 per hour for youths and double for adults, with insurance and utility costs cited. Homeless found warmth options over holidays in Medicine Hat

Community housing officials say services were available during Christmas and Boxing Day. Kiwanis offered a pre registered lunch with transport, Spirit of Christmas served meals, and Salvation Army provided 12 hours of shelter nightly. A few dozen people used shelters, with volunteers assisting those who pre registered.

Off-highway trails threaten planned Castle Park study

Alberta's NDP government weighs limits for Castle Wildland and Castle Provincial Parks after a regional study links off-highway vehicle use to major environmental impact. The report, based on 150 peer reviewed studies, notes 1700 kilometers of trails in a 1000 square kilometer area with 180 threatened species and high trail density.
