Prairie fires and railways dominate Medicine Hat meeting
In Medicine Hat on December 6 1901 H H Ross presided over the Agriculture Society as members debated prairie fires. J H Gilray read a paper on causes and prevention noting fires from railway lines and locomotives. A push sought broader legislation to require plowing fireguards 300 feet each side of tracks and annual burning before July 31 with an inspector appointed.
