Lifting up a local legend at Canalta Centre
The Medicine Hat Tigers retired jersey No. 9 for franchise icon Tom Lysiak amid a ceremony before a game with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Lysiak, who died last May after a leukemia battle, led the Tigers to their first WHL title and posted 327 career points in 213 NHL games. His family attended as teammate Zach Fischer handed the number to Lysiak’s relatives, and the Canalta Centre celebrated a lasting connection to the club.
