Two federal departments faced an IT security breach after an unauthorized network intrusion. An assessment warned in 2009 2010 that Treasury Board and Finance had incomplete security programs and governance, prompting internet disconnection while officials review fixes.
Education Minister Dave Hancock met with Medicine Hat's three local school boards to discuss funding and facilities. Trustees pressed for a new south end school while Hancock cautioned no capital announcements but planned capital options for the near future. Also in town were ministers Jack Hayden Yvonne Fritz Jonathan Denis Thomas Lukaszuk and Hector Goudreau.
Bessant said the plan for a new facility could cost at least 2 million with a choice between renovating the existing school or demolishing it. She emphasized a home-like environment and the need for substantial funding from provincial sources and CORE fundraising to overcome barriers.
Since 1997 visitors from Canada Mexico and some Caribbean nations have been exempt from the border fee but Obama proposes ending the exemption. DHS says it would raise about 110 million. Canadian officials and groups criticize the move as harmful to cross border travel and trade.
