Alberta Winter Games open with cauldron lighting in Medicine Hat
Derek Whitson of the National Sledge Hockey Team lights the Alberta Winter Games cauldron at the Canada Centre as Medicine Hat hosts 2,500 athletes, coaches and parents for a ceremony that blends formal welcome with a dance party. Torch relay lights Alberta Winter Games in Medicine Hat
The torch relay through Medicine Hat begins the three day Alberta Winter Games. Nine groups carried the flame from Hatters outside Medicine Hat College to Kin Coulee Park where Kaila Gavel of the Rattlers passed to the 670 Collective. Ed Stiles praised police and community support as Mayor Ted Clugston and local groups including Special Olympics and CFB Suffield joined the relay.
