Alberta Health Services announces drastic operating cost cuts as the province trims funding. CEO Vickie Kaminski cites reducing sick days and roaming charges, while Wildrose criticizes past severance costs totaling 28 million for 606 employees since 2011.
An additional temporary mobile MRI unit is in use at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital while a Siemens 1.5T Magnetom Aera is installed. The 12 week project replaces a 14 year old MRI and expands patient space. Hospital officials report no snags and say the mobile unit began operating this week.
Amny Sauvageau, Alberta's former chief medical examiner, sues the government alleging political pressure in office operations. She accuses funeral homes of body transport overcharges, photos at crime scenes for personal use, and double billing, while detailing other misconduct and a lack of intervention from Premier Jim Prentice. The Public Interest Commissioner is investigating.
