Lethbridge report says C. C. Baker receiver of the Canada Land and Irrigation Company will sail from England February 1 and arrive in Ottawa February 14. He will confer with the government on the Vandall district project housing 200000 irrigated acres to decide whether to continue or abandon the venture now in receivership. J W. McLane of Medicine Hat and D. W. Hays will meet Baker in Ottawa.

Child fatally burned by exploding knitting needle in kitchen

A one month old girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs J H Arches of Portage La Prairie, was left briefly in the kitchen. She thrust a celluloid knitting needle into the range causing it to explode and she caught fire. She died four hours later.

Canadian Supreme Court heard prairie provinces contend Crow's Nest Pass Act sets special maximum rates for specific commodities and that General Railway Act leaves the act beyond the board's jurisdiction. Girl Who Posed as Boy Is Arrested in Colorado

Nila Smith, who lived as a boy for four years in Colorado Springs, was arrested by police. Warren B. Thompson, 42, claiming to be her father, was also taken into custody in connection with a million promotions scheme allegedly involving 30,000 acres of land. Smith says she was born in Toronto and worked as a cabaret dancer. Thompson claimed her “you” graduated from Harvard and touted himself as an industrial expert.

Fire on Main Street Threatens Block in Chattanooga

Fire in Chattanooga Tennessee on Main Street early today spread to eight stores and a rooming house and was moving toward more buildings within minutes. The blaze caused rapid spread and raised concerns for nearby structures. No injuries reported at this time.

Thornton's Message Radioed Across the Atlantic

Winnipeg reports a message written in Winnipeg by Sir Henry Thornton was telegraphed to Moncton and broadcast to Britain and Newfoundland. CN Radio in Moncton relayed the message to listeners in Liverpool Manchester and other British cities. The transmission confirmed that the British Isles heard Thornton's message across the Atlantic.
