Man charged in fire at Empress Hotel in Victoria
Michael Harold Clarke of Sidney B C 26 was charged with arson after a Saturday blaze at the Empress Hotel forced 500 guests to evacuate. He appeared Sunday, remanded until today for provincial court. A man was arrested in a van outside a nearby hotel after fire crews arrived around 330 am. Fire damage estimated at 500000, doors prevented greater harm. Four guests were rescued from the second floor.
