Nicaraguan Sandinista Liberation Front guerrillas freed 13 hostages after a 21 day siege then flew to Cuba with about $600,000 and 14 comrades. Captive Laszlo Pataky described the captors as cool, calm professionals and said the hostages included Nicaragua's foreign minister and ambassadors.
John Dean testified that after arriving at the White House he learned of a project to restructure intelligence gathering on demonstrators and domestic radicals. He said the office received regular reports from FBI and sometimes CIA, as part of a drive to improve domestic intelligence.
