Berlin papers attack President Roosevelt for aiding Britain while calling his co responsibility and prolongation of the war empty. New York Rome radio summaries note mixed reactions with Latin America praising and Italian editors critical.
Sir Edward Beatty, president of Canadian Pacific Railway, thanks CPR officers and employees for loyalty and endurance during 1940 as Canada faces another year of war. He commends courage, unity, and fortitude in serving the nation and sustaining civilization in the face of global conflict.
William Allan Hunt 76 of Prince George B C faced a murder charge in St. Hippolyte de Sayabec Quebec for the death of Joseph Madore 88 after a train voyage. The preliminary hearing was delayed to January 7 as Hunt was ruled too ill to appear by his physician. The arraignment occurred December 12 before Judge Antonio Cotillard. The death happened two days earlier aboard a Montreal to Moncton train.
London reports Herbert Morrison announced a plan to make part time civil defence work compulsory for all Britons. He urged formation of a civil defence home guard to protect property while fast fire services focus on the worst fires. Details are being worked out as Britain faced the London fire raid aftermath.
Lord Woolton the school minister called on Britons to eat more home grown potatoes and oats and warned they would have to do with less meat in 1941. He appealed to housewives to use the can opener sparingly and said voluntary abstinence could avoid cheese rationing.

Mrs. Steve Andruchow, shot through the neck by an insane farmer who police say sought revenge after suspecting he was accused of killing a horse, continued to show improvement today in Egremont.

The Canadian Legion held a well attended general meeting electing F Richarde- Medi al to a fourth term as president by acclamation. Nominations for New Year include Premier King Aberhart Dr F W Gershaw MP and Mayor Lang for presidents.
