Natal armored cruiser sunk in harbor explosion
London reports British casualties for December total 1,001 officers and 17,548 men. The armored cruiser Natal sank after an internal explosion in the harbor yesterday. about 400 survived. Built at Vickers yards, laid down 1904, commissioned 1907, displacement 13,560 tons, 430 feet long, armed with 9.2 inch guns and smaller pieces, armor seven inches on barbettes. The Natal was among pre dreadnoughts outdated by newer battle cruisers.
