Buckingham Palace reported no change in the King’s condition at 3.15 pm and noted only slight gains in the lung area. Five specialists held a lengthy consultation and adopted new measures as doctors monitor his weak recuperative power and seek clearer progress in his general health.
Washington on December 28 reports another flu outbreak feared to be more severe later in winter. Surgeon General Cumming said the current wave is mild with no complications, but he views the situation as serious and notes the potential for a harsher influenza phase.
New Delhi December 28 reports say rebels seized Kabul electricity by diverting the Salang River. Fighting centered near the British Legation with eight buildings damaged and the power house and water tanks hit. One watchman was killed and two wounded. Legation stable after bombardment and now wireless links with India restored.
Lord Beaverbrook, proprietor of the London Daily Express and the Evening Standard, was cut by broken glass in a motor collision in London today. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
J D Duvall 58 a prisoner farm carpenter sergeant at the State prison farm Parchman Mississippi was found slain early today. His 18 year old daughter Ruth was missing and a negro trusty Charles Shepherd was being sought by posses with bloodhounds
In Belgium near Termonde a violent gale pushed tides inland and submerged about 7000 acres and five villages. The floods caused greater destruction than the earlier four week period and threatened surrounding lowlands as waters surged through the region.
Winnipeg grain market slips with wheat down 3 to 8 cents in early trading before stabilizing as commissions turn firm. Liverpool futures ease 1 8d to 1 4d with December weak. spreads improve modestly. barley and oats show little demand while rye and flax firm.
An affidavit charges Wilbur O Heldman a Lorain furnace salesman with the murder of his wife Margaret 21 near Canton Ohio on December 13. Heidman says she shot herself with the gun she had used a week earlier to kill Vernard A Pearn. A confession to the Pearn slaying was obtained from Mrs Heldman earlier in the day. The death occurred in their automobile near Canton as they neared the city.
In Gastonia district near Dallas North Carolina a farmer J W Vanderburg his wife and three children were killed and their home burned early today A 17 year old son believed to be insane is jailed on suspicion of starting the fire to cover the crime authorities said in Gaston County.
Elfreda Boneham wife of Earl Boneham farmer near Piapot Saskatchewan died from coal gas fumes after a stove damper remained closed. Her 15 year old brother-in-law Lynn Boneham was left in a critical condition with pneumonia from partial asphyxiation. Medical aid arrived too late for Elfreda but revived Lynn after a lengthy coma.
Winnipeg report notes Mennonites who left Western Canada for Paraguay in 1926 now face war fears as Bolivian troops advance into the interior of the Mennonite settlement amid South American border clashes. The community sought religious and educational freedom but finds itself in a center of regional conflict.
Washington dispatch reports a grave flare up at the Pan American conference as Paraguay accuses Bolivian troops of re occupying Fort Vanguardia and advancing 12 miles into disputed territory. Paraguay warns that only its defense can avoid new fighting and says the situation is very grave.
