In Versova Bombay hundreds of residents abandon television amid protests over violence and sex on TV. The Pioneer notes 1 200 residents across two high rise blocks now own no sets after Safira Ali Mohammad and others launched the curbside tossing streak.
Ottawa Finance Minister Paul Martin says raising taxes is preferable to missing deficit targets. He pledges to cut the $42 billion deficit to $32.7 billion in 1995-96 and about $25 billion in 1996-97 mainly through spending cuts, while considering a $2.2 billion tax package from the Commons finance committee.
