Christmas Weather Keeps Canadians Home Across Regions

Subzero readings spread from Yukon to Northern Ontario while Ontario saw a white Christmas in places. Holiday toll tops 60 deaths across Canada in Christmas period

At least 60 people died in Canada during the Christmas weekend ending midnight today. Traffic crashes caused 42 deaths, fires 15, with one drowning and two unclassified. Ontario saw house fires and highway deaths, while Québec and British Columbia led with 15 each and some provinces reported no fatalities. The survey excludes natural, industrial, and violent deaths.

Police hunt two convicts in Melbourne killings

Oil rig collapses off Grimsby with 46 aboard

In the North Sea east of Grimsby an oil drilling rig weighing 5600 tons collapsed and sank. An armada of ships and helicopters rescued 17 men, reported three seriously injured, and recovered the body of a dead worker as only steel fragments remained above the waves.
