Toronto December 27 A scientific measure of apprenticeship fitness is now compulsory for entry to the Toronto Typographical Union no youth will be admitted until passing psychiatric tests. Randoph New York December 26 A man Peter McLareny killed his wife Dorothy Anderson McLareny and shot her mother Grace Anderson and brother John before shooting himself to avoid capture. Authorities say he was ill and had recently undergone a major operation and used narcotics before the rampage. The victims were wounded and the couple had a troubled marriage with elopements and divorces.
Chicago doctors report Wax Peck alive after surgeons extracted a steel spike from his left ventricle. In a Christmas Eve lodging house Peck attempted suicide with a lead pipe cannon, firing a red hot wire into his chest. X rays confirmed the spike, and Dr. Carl Meyer reopened the chest to remove it and restart the heart.
