W. C. Larnon appeared before Magistrate Rae at the Police Court charged with obtaining money under false pretences. He issued cheques without funds, but his father agreed to pay the amounts due. the magistrate released him under a two year suspended sentence and $250 bail.
W B A Ritchie KC, a former law partner of Sir Robert Borden and highly known Canadian lawyer, died in Vancouver after a two day illness. He was admitted to General Hospital on Sunday with mastoid abscess and died following an operation.
Montreal Dec 24 John R Lamb is appointed assistant general manager of the Bank of Toronto after nearly three years as superintendent of branches and prior service as western superintendent The announcement notes his long tenure and leadership roles within the bank.

A newcomer to the Peace River area, Ja A Russell, perished in extreme cold near the Peace River, about fourteen miles below a local village. He had arrived from Minnesota with his wife six weeks earlier and was prospecting with a companion to locate a homestead when he disappeared during a tramp from Peace River to Battle River, his body later found near the riverbank.
An old fortification near Medicine Hat suffered arson and later fires after police used the barracks as a base. The ruins at the banks of the river saw military involvement and transfers led to abandonment of the site by 1877.
